Your character wakes up in a neat bedroom in their team carriage, in nondescript underwear. They might be missing their memories, or their special abilities, or they may just feel a little queasy. Next to them is what seems to be a smartphone, which they know how to use even if they never had before, even if they don't know if they have before. On the screen is a simple message:

Welcome aboard the Aurora!

You have been selected by the Star Prince as a potential hero, tasked with saving the universe from Malice. As a passenger I, your Construct and Conductor, will attempt to provide you with quality lodgings and safety. In return, we ask that you join your fellows in making bonds and doing your utmost to bring joy back to the Stars.

Due to the process of restoring your body, you may find some things are missing. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to return them to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

★ One

Upon investigation, you'll find some basic clothes matching your team's theme in the storage provided in your room. Or, perhaps, you're wandering out of the room still undressed. Either way, downstairs you'll find someone has left a tray of cups of hot tea on the living room table. Drinking it may be simply pleasant, or it may cause you to feel a sudden need to warm up to the others in your carriage -- emotionally or physically. Welcome to the team, newbie!

☆ Two

Shortly after your arrival, you find yourself wrapped up in some monster NPC's Game. You're inside what appears to be a stone temple, with a massive golden scale on one wall. Suddenly, on one side, a heavy metal weight is dropped. As the scales tip out of balance, the floor begins to slowly disappear, brick by brick, ready to drop you -- and whoever is with you -- into an abyss. Your only hope comes in the form of an inscription on the altar:

How much do your secrets weigh?

Every secret you tell causes a weight to fall onto the other side of the scale. The bigger the secret, the bigger the weight. If you can collectively tip the scales, the floor will quit dropping bricks and a door will appear to allow you back to the train. If you can't, you'll fall, seemingly forever, til you pass out. When you wake up you'll find yourself unable to lie.

★ Three

You've been on the Aurora for awhile. Maybe you've even made a few friends! Maybe you've been keeping them at arms length -- even though you know you shouldn't. You know that's not how any of this works.

Either way, you find yourself waking up some place you're not used to-- you're outside the train, no matter where it is you went to sleep. You may not even be sure what it is that woke you up at first -- but then you'll realize. It's the person next to you. Maybe they're still asleep -- maybe they've already woken up and they're staring at you in confusion.

Or maybe they're staring at the handcuffs holding you together. You know, whichever.

There's only one way to get these handcuffs off -- you'll each have to share a memory with each other. It's the only way. So... enjoy that.

[listen, she is just super offended that this is what she has to deal with. Her time since arriving has hardly been a fun nor enlightening time and now this.]

[Either way, she's backing away from the falling floor, looking for another way out.]

[You know, you'd think being handcuffed to someone would be enough to rouse a person. As well as being asleep outside.]

[She seems content to keep snoring away. She's really not much of a morning person.]

[A scream was certainly the sort of thing that drew the attention. Penric had been exploring, but now he was quite willing to throw open the door and find out the source of the scream]

What is it?

[Have one amber yellow skinned girl, pressed up against the wall, looking at herself in abject horror. Staring at a hand, feeling at her forehead, seemingly unconcern her state of dress in face of FINGERS.]

[But her head snaps up when he talks and she jerks away, fear on her face.]

[Then]

[Anger]

YOU!

What have you done to me?!

[The yellow skin wasn't jaundice, so Penric was just going to fold that into 'a type of human variation that he'd never seen before, even from foreigners'. His first thought was that somehow she knew he was a sorcerer, and this was normal suspicion. He did glance to his shoulder, to see if his sorcerer's braids had materialized on his strange clothing. Nope. He held up his hands.]

I assure you miss, whatever was done to you, I had no part in it. Even if I wanted to -- which I don't -- I currently am incapable of much of anything.

[An internal snort from Desdemona, who was more out of sorts than Pen, since they were technically her powers, but wasn't going to let that remark go unnoticed.] .

I was kidnapped as well, you see.

[because of course that was what this was about.]

[She is still glaring at him in anger and suspicion, but one thing gets her to pause a moment. Rubbing at her forehead, actually feeling it with a closed fist.]

Incapable....

They took your horn too?

Er... what?

I am certain I missed a leap in logic there.

There's not a lot of creatures that can do this level of transmutation. Gifted unicorns, draconequuses, and possibly Changelings with some kind of transference spell would be the most likely contenders.

Take a step back. What happened to you that made you scream. Besides 'I woke up in a strange place that was not where I went to sleep'.

I've been turned into some freak of nature, of course I screamed!

[Pen looked at her, then down at himself]

But from what?

A pony, what else?! The only other species that look like a ranbow threw up on them is fish and birds! Are you braindead? You're the one who coukd have been a buffalo or cat or griffin.

I assumed you were a human from some very distant land. We do vary somewhat in coloration.

I've never seen a pony in that color either.

Yeah, kinda hard to find a repeating coloration outside of a family, that's what happens when your species is pretty much every color in existence because magic has infused itself to a genetic level.

I mean, in my experiences, ponies are not wildly colored. Perhaps a bit more colorful than humans, but not by much.

I'm a human. And not noticeably colorblind, no. I've checked.

[After all, Desdemona dimly remembers being a mare and a lioness, as well as several other humans; it gives one the sense of how one's senses vary.]

[She looks him over. Suspicion back.]

So why are you temporarily incapable if you haven't been transmutated into some weird ape?

Well, it's not me exactly, it's my demon. For some reason, her magic is completely blocked. We can't even light a candle.

[That moment when you WERE a demon and it was a whole thing for your development]

A demon? Her name is Desdemona.

{Try to make this sound normal, Pen, and be prepared to run if it goes badly.]

What does a demon have to do with sorcery? What is it?

[ Despite how utterly disoriented he feels, he does a good job of not appearing that way as he meanders downstairs. He's dressed and fairly put together, though the curiosity is plain on his face as he looks around. Almost as if drawn he'll move towards the tea, though while he picks up a cup in both hands, he doesn't drink it quite yet. Instead he offers a polite smile for whoever might be nearby. ]

Were you the one to prepare this tea? It smells quite comforting, though I don't quite recognize the aroma...

[ While there's an undeniable pulse of panic in his gut once he wakes up, he manages to keep himself outwardly calm. The handcuffs don't help, but...

Whether you're already awake or just waking up yourself, he'll react more or less the same. An apologetic smile, and a slight gesture with the hand that's bound to you, enough to make the chain clink. ]

Seems we've found ourselves in quite a ... situation, here. But first, are you alright?

[ He's already awake by the time Akechi starts coming to, and when his partner stars moving and, well, talking, he seems to just be getting even more frustrated. He's already cranky on the best of days and this — chained to this guy with no coffe in sight when he's just woken up — is far from his definition of best. ]

What do you think? We're chained together with no plain exit in sight. Obviously I'm not alright.

If you're going to ask stupid questions instead of bringing something useful to the table you can go right back to sleep.

[Asking if she's okay is probably warranted. She was definitely the second one to wake up and it may have taken a few calls to do.]

[Looking at him with a confused glare before her eyes catches sight of their hands.]

[That, at least, gets her to sit up.] What is- [And she's immediately trying to get it off, even if she's doing it by pressing the chain into the ground to a closed fist as she tries to tug her hand free.]

[Her eyes focus on him, her glare more suspicious now.] Did you do this?

[and guess who just so happens to be standing nearby!! this tall, fluffy-haired clover, dressed in his unicorn kigurumi, nursing a cup of coffee]

[there's no recognition in his expression and he seems totally at home with being dressed like a unicorn]

Nnnnnope.

[points at a nearby coffee maker, which houses a pot of coffee]

I'm more of a coffee guy than a tea guy.

[the person closest happens to be seemingly engrossed in the video game she's holding in her hands, the soft sounds of retro gaming noises coming through the speakers. it's after a pause, a beat long enough to feel like she wasn't going to respond at all, she finally speaks, soft spoken:]

...Nuh uh. Sometimes stuff like that gets left around.

[Well, obviously she's going to get dressed first, who do you think she is? She takes the time as she's pulling on the unfamiliar garments to puzzle over the blank space where her memories once were, and mull over the words she'd found on the screen. Bring joy back to the Stars...

Heaving a sigh, she makes her way down into the common area, tail twitching in her vague annoyance. She really didn't like not remembering things...]

Hello. Are you one of my "fellows"?

[No reason to be rude, though.]

[Handcuffs? Really? Really?]

Well. I suppose we're stuck in a predicament.

[She offers helpfully, holding up her cuffed hand to inspect it further.]

You don't know any of those tricks to get these off, do you?

[This is a predicament, of course! But not one totally alien to Dayir! Probably. Maybe he wasn't handcuffed to a catgirl then but details.]

Hm?

Oh yeah, it's easy!

[The he grabs at the cuff on her wrist so that he doesn't hurt her or anything and just. Attempts to break them with his bare hands.]

[oh. . .]

[why is this vaguely uncomfortable???]

[lifts his hand, rattling the handcuff chains a bit]

[Hey party people, how is it going? You now have a 7ft tall scaly dragon man in your carriage, and he's come out in his underwear because he doesn't know those clothes and you don't just put strange clothes on your body, right? Probably.

He can be found squinting suspiciously at the tea.]

Oh no, I know where this is going, and I'm already kidnapped, thank you.

[His "secrets", huh?]

Well, I can't remember any secrets, so I guess we're up a creek. [SHRUGS. He doesn't have amnesia, he just has a bad memory.]

[Bad news. Dayir is a big man and he isn't super observant, so waking up in some new place is the only thing that gets his attention, meaning that when he gets up to check out his surroundings he barely even registers that tugging on his wrist that is probably from the poor sap stuck to him.]

Gotta say. Getting pretty tired of this kind of thing. But I guess at least it's me being taken hostage and not my friends this time. Little victories.

[totally wearing the unicorn kigu. because of course]

I can offer a much safer alternative.

[PRESENT: COFFEE]

No offense, you seem fine and all, but I make it a point not to accept drinks from strangers.

[Or even friends, sometimes. Sometimes you get drugged just one too many times and you develop a Fear. One Fear.]
